1st unit: basics of labour law and overview of specific areas of labour law, including a brief outline of the European legal framework and access to the Austrian labour market both for EU citizens and for other foreigners (work permits) 2nd unit: classification of employees, distinguishing between salaried employees and waged workers, differentiation between independent contractors and company contractors, conclusion and amendment of employment contracts 3rd unit: rights and obligations of employers and employees (liability issues in employment, worker protection, holidays, working hours, parental protection) 4th unit: termination of employment, challenging of termination by employees 5th unit: transfer of business, temporary employment, protection of employees claims in the case of insolvency of the employer 6th unit: role and functions of the works council, collective agreements, operating agreements |
| Learning outcomes |
Knowledge - Students can explain basic legal concepts of the Austrian labour law - They know the basic principles of the applicable labour law, both in the area of employment relationship law (individual labour law) as well as in the area of labour relations law (collective labour law). Comprehension - They can understand legal matters. - They are able to recognise labour relations presented in example situations. Application - Students can assess simple cases and can identify whether legal claims exist and if so what they are. - They can apply the labour law both from the perspective of the employee as well as from the perspective of the employer. |
