Learning outcomes

Conflicts are unavoidable in human coexistence. Dealing with them constructively holds valuable learning potential, while dealing with conflicts destructively causes human suffering and often also considerable costs. Mediation is an extrajudicial procedure for constructive conflict resolution. It focuses on the mediators' own responsibility and builds on their willingness to cooperate in order to explore the underlying motives for the dispute, to achieve mutual understanding between the mediators and thus to make a cooperative and sustainable conflict resolution possible.

The students know the historical roots as well as the current framework conditions and fields of application of mediation. They have dealt with the principles of mediation as well as the necessary working attitude of the mediators and can explain their significance for mediation practice. They are familiar with phase concepts of mediation with their specific step sequences and the essential methods for shaping mediation processes.
