Course content

   Concept of science

   Scientific ways of knowing

   Quantitative vs. qualitative empirical research process including quality criteria

   Writing center and library offerings

   Formal requirements for manuscript creation including text types

   Scientific language and evidence systems

   Citation of sources using the Zotero literature management system and literature research techniques

Learning outcomes

• This course is intended to be the foundation for academic work, on which students can build a scientific working attitude and action skills over the course of their studies.

• The students have dealt with the concept of science and know why a well-founded, systematic approach is essential.

• You have gained an overview of methods of scientific knowledge, can distinguish between quantitative and qualitative research approaches and understand the respective quality criteria. You have dealt with empirical research processes.

• The students know the writing center offerings including the library and can use them in a targeted manner. You have dealt with the principles of academic writing and can implement their formal criteria, such as citing and supporting sources.

Interactive course with lecture, case studies, exercises in individual and group work, presentations and homework.
