Prerequisites and co-requisites

Successful completion of the course Project Management as well as Communication and Self-Reflection and Team Competence and Interaction. Determination of a focus from which the professional task of the project workshop originates.

Course content

Based on a concrete problem and task of the commissioning company or organisation, the respective project teams work on the topic.

The content of the topics focuses on the entire spectrum of supply chain management. The project management and team competence methods required in the context of the project as well as the specialist supply chain management content are applied and deepened in an application-oriented manner.

The project teams are coached by a suitable specialised teacher. The students can use the knowledge and skills they have acquired so far, experience and reflect on their current state of development and plan further development steps.

The necessary project documents are prepared and the results are presented in final events.

Learning outcomes

In the project workshop, the students should apply the methods of project management, process management, team management, as well as basic knowledge of their focus on supply chain management and deepen it in an application-oriented manner. For this purpose, the students work on real tasks (problems) of clients in companies or institutions, which are acquired by the university or can also be proposed by students from their respective professional environment. The head of the programme decides on the suitability of the task together with the university lecturers responsible for the subject.

The students formulate a written project assignment based on the real tasks, structure the project in terms of time and content, plan, control and monitor the development process. In doing so, the students should also formulate objectives for the targeted solution approach.

The students prepare target group-oriented presentations for the clients and steering committees. In doing so, they are to use suitable media and communication tools for effective interaction with all stakeholders. The students are to prepare comprehensive project documentation that explains the essential steps of the work to the clients in a comprehensible way, secures important interim results and analyses and justifies the solution concepts adopted.

The students have to analyse a concrete practical situation from companies (industry and business, or if applicable from institutions, administration, non-profit organisations, etc.). In doing so, they show that they are able to point out and describe the strengths and weaknesses of the actual situation. They also create an as-is analysis and a to-be conception for the specific task and link these with the subject- and task-specific theories to goal-oriented, implementation-relevant solutions.

If no practical problem is given, students analyse and evaluate a current problem from the field of supply chain management or conduct an empirical analysis on current topics in supply chain management and evaluate the results of the analysis.

Concepts, applications and alternative solutions corresponding to the project goals are developed and presented by the students. The students are to design a solution approach together with relevant stakeholders and propose it for implementation. The developed recommendations for action for the implementation are also to be elaborated in the project documentation.

In order for the students to be able to reflect on their elaborated technical solutions, the planning and other aspects of the project work with regard to the prospects of success, the target/actual result and to assess the consequences, the project documentation is supplemented by a reflection report that is not sent to the client.
