Course content
  • Reflective, responsible use of AI in academic studies
  • Fundamentals of generative AI and its use
  • Framework for scientific work processes with AI consisting of:
    - Six phases of scientific work
    - Thinking modes as a cognitive reference system (analyzing, arguing, evaluating, etc.)
    - Operational control consisting of:
Prompting strategies (iterative refinement, socratic questioning, etc.)
Context architecture (role, goal, criteria, status, etc.)
Knowledge base control (own considerations, literature, web/model knowledge, etc.)
Including design in the form of an AI assistance system (role modules)
  • Work process design, reflection and evaluation
  • Implementation of formal criteria in academic text types
Learning outcomes

Scientific writing supports knowledge generation and serves to impart knowledge. Writing can be understood as a process of understanding and structuring that leads to clarity and order of thought, enabling content to be communicated concisely and comprehensibly. The use of AI can support this, provided it is done in a reflective and responsible manner.

Students are familiar with the three elements of the framework for scientific work processes with AI (work phases / thinking modes / operational control) and use these for their own work process: They plan the work process and integrate AI appropriately by starting from specific thinking modes and selecting and combining suitable prompting strategies. They formulate the context and consciously control the knowledge base in order to generate more precise AI responses. Based on this, they can set up a modular assistance system. Students are aware of the limitations and problem areas of this technology and can use it in a reflective and responsible manner.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Interactive course with lectures, exercises in individual and group work, presentations, and homework assignments.

Assessment methods and criteria
