Prerequisites and co-requisites

For this event, students apply in a team with an idea.

The minimum requirement is that one student from a technical field and one student from a business field form a team. In order to simplify team formation, a workshop is offered in the first semester (at startupstube), in which students have the opportunity to briefly present their idea and recruit team members.

The team applies together for this course.

In this application, the following points should be briefly addressed:

  • Innovative content of the idea
  • Technical challenges
  • Economic viability, market
  • ...

The selection is then made by the FHV core team, which evaluates the technical feasibilty at the FHV and the economic feasibility of the idea. In the course, two promising ideas can be supported.

The scope of the course is two semesters and an advanced Master's thesis is aimed for.

Course content

The goal is to demonstrate a proof of concept with the help of a functioning prototype at the end of this course. In addition, the economic viability (market research, resulting business model) is to be developed. The overall concept thus paves the way to founding a successful start-up company; the main risks are already cushioned during the course.

The following contents are covered in the course:

  • Idea implementation
  • Idea generation
  • Production-technical implementation
  • Technical implementation
  • Economic evaluation and business plan creation
  • Creation of advertising material
  • Applying for subsidies

  • Project organisation
  • Interdisciplinary cooperation
  • idea generation, creativity techniques
  • Technical implementation of ideas
  • Economic assessment, market research
  • Project presentation

Recommended or required reading

The specialist literature or secondary literature is recommended to students individually adapted to the idea.

Mode of delivery (face-to-face, distance learning)

Students receive theoretical and practical input from a core team at the FHV from the fields of engineering, business and design. Active collaboration between students and supervisors is encouraged. The supervisors from the different disciplines provide coaching, instruction, participation in discussions and seminars, but self-study is also part of the acquisition of knowledge and teh further development of this knowledge.

All technical laboratories of the FHV are available for the implementation of one's own idea. The core team of the FHV ensures that the idea can be implemented as quickly and professionally as possible.
