Attendance is mandatory. The willingness to read the work "Einbruch in die Freiheit" by Jiddu Krishnamurti is a basic requirement for attending this course. |
Course content |
In the course “Philosophicum – Thinking & Dialogue” students will not simply memorize pure knowledge of the history of philosophy. It is much more important to develop, for example with the help of a phenomenological or hermeneutic method, their own way of thinking, of philosophizing and of communicating. In order to reach this goal, theoretical inputs of the lecturers will be combined with individual and collective reading of primary and secondary literature as well as with practical exercises. As mentioned before, the topics of communication and philosophical dialogue will also be relevant, especially in contrast to pure rhetoric and sophistic talking and thinking. The course explicitly wants to demonstrate that communicative competences and philosophical perceptions are highly beneficial in everyday life and in the work life when it comes to cooperating, solving problems and managing personnel. |
Learning outcomes |
In the course "Philosophicum – Thinking & Dialogue", the students should not only memorize knowledge of the history of philosophy, but learn to think, philosophize, and also communicate using various methods and approaches.Students will be empowered to develop their own way of thinking. The importance of thinking and “living” in dialogue will be carved out and also shown in the course of practical exercises. Students will additionally be able to approach philosophical papers and discourses, analyze them and then apply their new knowledge to current problems. |

Short term paper, participation. Criteria: participation, thinking, introducing topics and perspectives into the course, independent preparation of the literature. |

The course will change concerning its specific topics over time. However, the basic foundation – as described above – will be preserved. |
Recommended or required reading |
"Einbruch in die Freiheit" by Jiddu Krishnamurti is the main text for this course. Further literature (short texts) will be announced at the beginning of the course. |
Mode of delivery (face-to-face, distance learning) |
The course takes place as an intensive study week. Theoretical inputs of the lecturers are combined with the individual and joint reading of primary and secondary texts as well as practical exercises (e.g. on the subject complex of perception, assumption and interpretation). The topic of communication and (philosophical) dialogue, which distinguishes itself from rhetoric and sophistry, also plays a major role. |
