Course content

The seminar on finances provides students with a systematic overview of the interplay of business occurrences relevant for accounting, beginning with accounting/profit and loss through to how to interpret these figures within the framework of the annual accounts. In the finance part of the course, the business game "factory" is used to teach students about the "setting levers" in companies, about their effects on business results and about measures to improve results.

The business process management part conveys the process-oriented perspective on a company. The focus is on the main business processes of a company and their interaction. It also discusses how to analyze, improve, measure and control business processes. On the basis of concrete case studies from the company's practice, the students practice how problems in business processes can be recognized and which design principles can be used to remedy weak points in business processes. 

Learning outcomes

The students learn to know the fundamental economic contents and processes, especially the fundamental financial connections within an organization. The students learn about business processes how to: identify, - present - control - assess - improve them.

The students learn to know the fundamental econimic contents an precesses, especially the fundamental financial connections within an organization. They will be able to read and understand a company's balance sheet and income statement.

In the second part, they acquire a good understanding of the process for the relevant relationships in companies and organizations and can identify, analyze, improve, measure and control processes. 

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Finance: Seminar with financial business game.

Business Process Management: Integrated course with business simulation game, exercises and case studies from business practice. Attendance in the seminar is mandatory.

 

Assessment methods and criteria

Finance: written exam (45 minutes), 50%
Business Process Management: Thesis, 50%

For a positive grade, a minimum of 50% of the possible points must be achieved in each part of the examination.
