Principles of Supply Chain Management

Course content

The competitiveness of firms is strongly influenced by the supply chain management and the management of the value chains across multiple companies.

Students are familiar with the concepts of design levels, modelling methods and the procedure model for the design.

Concepts and methods of procurement, controlling and planning as well as simulation are known.

Learning outcomes

Knowledge

  • Students know the supply chain operation reference model (SCORE model) as a reference model for supply chain management (SCM).

  • The content and design possibilities of the elements "source, make, deliver and return" are classified and known.

Comprehension

  • They understand which philosophies, principles and tools are used in modern supply chains.

  • Aspects, methods and tools for the planning and design of a global SC are developed.

  • The structure and process of supply chain controlling and substantial KPI is displayed. The risks and success factors in SCM can be shown.

  • The basic structure and applications of simulation models in a dynamic environment are known and can be discussed.

Application/ Analysis

  • Cases from different industries or companies can be analysed, improvements can be displayed.

Assessment methods and criteria

Conceptual paper, individually written on one of the topics offered, minimum of 12,000 characters incl. spaces per person.

Criteria for evaluation: content aspects, scientific work/methodology, implementation of relevant aspects, formal aspects
