Course content

Beside the national concept of social security and social services we see on the European level the European Social Model. Strategy-papers, financial programs and actionplans of the EU use an European understanding of terms and definitions based on the comparison of social systems of the memberstates. Information about models of good practice and European benchmarks and how to influence them through active social lobbying becomes more and more important.

Learning outcomes

Students know the coordinating position of the EU in systems of social security, know the basics and concepts of the European social policy, are able to compare social services in the European context and consequences on the national system, know how to transfer and apply to European datas and specific social services (e.g. pension, basic needs or work)
