Course content

In the second semester of the three-semester English module, students continue their biographical search for traces in relation to their own generation:

socio-political and cultural changes in society 1945-2018 (with a focus on digitalization, globalization, economization, consumer and experience society).
Youth cultures and pop culture from 1945-2018
Media knowledge and criticism
Research project on a youth culture in the Lake Constance region (comparison with earlier youth cultures; interplay of locality and globality)
Writing an abstract about the research project (formulating a research question; format, structure, and language of an abstract).

Learning outcomes

Students will:

Can name and describe global socio-political and cultural changes in the period 1945-2018.
are able to illustrate with examples how socio-political and cultural events find their expression in pop and youth culture.
are able to reflect on their generation, choice of studies and social changes, especially the digital transformation, individually and in relation to each other.
know the basic rules of scientific writing and the structure of an abstract.

Assessment methods and criteria

Produce and present creative conceptual work in written form in small groups.
