Course content

The information about the European Union (alternatively: about the Austrian government in Vienna) and its institutions increases the understanding of societal and socio-political developments in the transnational area.

  • the transfer of research results to societal and socio-political developments is an important component for master’s graduates (knowledge management)
  • the basic competence objectives of the master’s program (leadership competence and advanced scientific competence) are brought together
  • the aim of the research trip is to find out that socio-political decisions can be influenced through well-founded results
Learning outcomes

After successfully completing the course, students can:

  • name the main features of the European Union (alternatively: Austrian government) and its institutions and classify them socio-politically
  • recognize the importance of the European Union (alternatively: Austrian government) for their work in the social economy and derive action maxims from this
  • understand and recognize the connection between interest representation and socio-political developments
  • understand the importance of scientifically sound lines of argument and the transfer of scientific results to socio-political decision-making processes
  • understand and recognize instruments of lobbying for political decision-makers
Planned learning activities and teaching methods
  • field trip to Brussels or Vienna with a visit to relevant institutions (of the European Union) or socio-political or socio-political lobby organizations
  • keynote speeches

  • immanent (or, if unable to attend, final) examination character
  • responsibility for the content of individual topics
  • impulse presentations on site
  • attendance/ participation

 

Comment
  • The costs for the research trip are to be borne individually by the students.
  • The expected costs will be quantified in the preliminary discussion.
  • Compulsory attendance: instead of participating in the field trip, a seminar paper of at least 10 pages on the topic of the course must be written as a substitute performance.
