Course content

Industrial Image Processing

application areas, sampling and quantisation, basic rules and signal flow, illumination, lens systems, camera types, histogram, point operations, filters, pixel segmentation, edge detection, template matching, object features.

Robotics

basic elements of an industrial robot, types of robots and typical applications, mathematical background of robotics (transformation matrices), grippers, tool changer, sensors in robotics, robot safety, computer integrated manufacturing, structure of assembling, processes planning of assembling processes.

Pneumatics

basics of pneumatics, symbols, generation of pressured air, pneumatic controls, electro-pneumatics, differences between pneumatic and hydraulic systems, Laboratory exercises in pneumatics: pneumatic and electro-pneumatic control of a cylinder, sequential control for a transfer station.

Learning outcomes

Industrial Image Processing

  • The students know application areas of industrial image processing systems.
  • The students can describe the components of an industrial image process system.
  • The students can describe example image processing algorithms for image preprocessing and image segmentation.

Robotics

  • The students can list different types of robots and its application areas.
  • The students can explain the components of a robot system.
  • The students can describe different possibilities to program a robot.
  • The students can describe structure and planning of assembly processes.

Pneumatics

  • The students know the basic symbols of pneumatic systems.
  • The students can explain main components of pneumatic systems.
  • The students are able to develop and operate pneumatic sequence controls for industrial automation purposes.
