Course content

Each of the seminars starts with a little quiz to illustrate how difficult it sometimes is to find the right solution and how easily we are deceived by our intuition and by relying on common sense.
Then a number of aspects and methods of Critical Thinking like deduction, induction, Venn diagrams, syllogisms and assumptions are introduced to show the use of logic in our language.

These can then be used to generate successful problem solution texts and arguments, as well as clearly structured abstracts.

Learning outcomes

Students will be equipped with a variety of techniques to think creatively and critically for both the academic and working world. They will be able to see the weaknesses and strengths of arguments and learn to apply these skills in their own work. As a result, they will also be able to find logical and coherent solutions to problems and develop sound arguments.

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Seminars and practical exercises.

Assessment methods and criteria

THREE written assignments based on seminar content and submitted during the semester by the deadline as set at the beginning of the course. Participation.
