Prerequisites and co-requisites

You should either have a level of A1 in German or have previously participated in an intensive German course or had German instruction over a longer period of time, however, not recently. As a pre-intermediate learner of German you should understand most of the German instructions given by your teacher in class.

Course content

The course focuses on teaching DaF-relevant aspects of German grammar, covering a number of topics of interest to students and aims at developing a vocabulary range of approximately 1000 words.

Learning outcomes

After successful completion of this course you should be able to understand frequently used expressions related to personal information, the local geography, shopping, university life and employment. You are able to answer questions about personal details such as your background, your ambitions and your future plans. You will be able to interact successfully with German speakers in various situations, for example, when going to the pharmacy, the hairdresser or booking a table in a restaurant. This normally corresponds to a level of A2

Planned learning activities and teaching methods

Task based learning strategies applied in group and team work, writing activities, listening activities and video analyses.

Assessment methods and criteria

Assessment is normally a combination of written assignments submitted and tests taken during the semester.
