Course content
  • Basics and definitions from regulations and standards:
  • Low voltage/high voltage
  • Equipment (generators/motors, transformers, rails, cables, lines, switchgear, transformers, arresters, etc.):
  • Design/function
  • Characteristics/properties
  • Dimensioning
  • Tests
  • Maintenance
  • Different concepts of switchgear (outdoor and gas-insulated), their construction, advantages and disadvantages
  • Protection mechanisms, telecontrol system and control room of electrical installations
Learning outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to

  • explain basic problems arising from the use of high voltage as well as name remedies.
  • explain basic problems arising from the use of high currents as well as name remedies.
  • explain the operation of various equipment in electrical power engineering and dimension it.
  • design and dimension electrical switchgears.
  • explain the typical structure of plants and their control mechanisms.
